Fight Against Alcoholism
Alcoholism is a core issue in the Sabar community. There are families where both parents are addicted. On every dusk, they spend a considerable amount of money earned the day, if not most or even all, buying local alcohol. Worst, they sometimes borrow for the sole purpose of drinking. This causes further distress to the already financially weak families. They return home drunk, fight among themselves and create all kinds of nuisances. The kids suffer the most, they get gripped by trauma. They neglect hunger, even the children are drunk by their parents at home while they go to work, and do not get proper meals. This leads to malnutrition in children and chronic diseases like tuberculosis, liver disease, peptic ulcer etc. are very common among adults.
Based on experience and reports, the Samiti has taken up the task of reducing alcoholism among the Sabar community. From the very beginning of the organization, the Anti-alcoholism movement is our main focus.
The Samiti has initiated a campaign. Two times in a year, Samity organizes a Youth Camp and The boys and girls who take part in the youth camp accept our idea against alcoholism, and they willingly take up the task of volunteering in their village. Brainstormed in the Youth Camp, They voiced against the evils of alcoholism. The new generation wants to be free from the curse of this bad habit. They started an anti-drug campaign with their classmates alongside their studies. By writing and painting on the walls with the help of their teachers, they are creating awareness about the evils of alcohol.
Alongside the above campaign, a door-to-door awareness drive needs to be initiated. We need to figure out how we can rehabilitate the local wine producers. We need to educate children and engage them through some other activities. Women's involvement is needed to remedy this. The Samiti believe that this problem will be solved only if the women forces in the villages stand united. This will create an aware and responsible new generation.
