Community Learning Centres (CLCs)

PBKSK has vowed to improve the educational status of these first-generation learners by offering educational support classes. The Sabar Samity has set up Community Learning Centres (CLC) in 17 Sabar hemlets. All these CLCs are running with the help of individual and institutional support. Each centre has a teacher who conducts support classes for children for three hours every day. During this period children are taught in a fun-loving environment to understand the basic concepts optimally. Sabar children speak local dialect, hence, subjects are also taught in their dialect along with the academic Bangla language. Teachers also play the role of parents by helping children to complete their homework and enriching their interest in education. Each CLC is equipped with books and a toy library with an open playground where various sports activities are carried out. Parents are also made to participate in educational activities of CLC, they are also informed about the academic performance of their ward, this has positively built the perception of parents towards the education of their ward. CLCs are also aimed at enriching the life skills among children. Currently, there are more than 530 children enrolled with the CLC established by Sabar Samity and the number is ever increasing day by day. Even, After their classes, the students of some of the CLCs  got food. This food facility depends on the donor who is supporting it financially. Teachers also ensure that children under the age of 6 years avail services of Anganwadi (ICDS) and attend schools regularly. Attendance and academic performance of children are discussed with the concerned school teachers. Efforts are made towards sensitizing school teachers to the special educational needs of the first-generation learners of Sabar tribe children. This has resulted in improved attendance, academic performance and positive approach of school teachers towards children from the Sabar community. Similarly, the school enrollment rate especially for girl children has increased on the other hand school dropout rate decreased respectively.

Teacher's training program

PBKSKS recognizes the crucial role that teachers play in the education and development of students. To enhance the quality of education in their Community Learning Centers (CLCs), PBKSKS organizes  Teacher Training Workshop in collaboration with many institutional and individual personalities. The workshop aimed to provide professional development opportunities for teachers and enhance their teaching skills and methodologies.

During the training program, CLC teachers received guidance on various aspects of teaching, including curriculum development, instructional techniques, classroom management, and assessment strategies. The training sessions focused on creating a student-centered learning environment, promoting interactive teaching methods, and fostering inclusive practices. By participating in the training program, CLC teachers were able to enhance their pedagogical skills and expand their understanding of effective teaching practices. They gained valuable insights into student engagement, differentiated instruction, and addressing the specific educational needs of the Sabar community students.

Through such training programs, PBKSKS aims to empower teachers, enabling them to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional development of the students. Ultimately, this contributes to the overall mission of promoting higher education and improving the educational outcomes of the Sabar community.
